Position Summary
We are currently seeking a dedicated Mainframe Systems Administrator to join our client’s team full-time. This role plays a pivotal part in ensuring the stability, performance, and security of their core systems. Help bridge the gap between the internal oversight and the external managed service provider.
As a Mainframe Systems Administrator, you will be responsible for analyzing mainframe operating environments to ensure optimal performance and uptime. You’ll help shape the future by evaluating and implementing mainframe hardware and software upgrades, and provide expert technical support to our Applications team, fostering a collaborative and resilient technology environment.

Key Responsibilities
- The goal is to have someone in-house and dedicated, keeping our best interests in mind, while making sure the third-party provider is executing appropriately. This person will serve as a technical SME, advisor, and watchdog — ensuring the core systems remain stable, secure, and properly supported.
- Monitor, analyze, and maintain the health and performance of mainframe z/OS operating systems.
- Evaluate system resource usage to ensure efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
- Plan and execute upgrades, patches, and migrations for mainframe infrastructure.
- Participate in the selection, testing, and implementation of mainframe hardware and software solutions.
- Troubleshoot complex issues related to mainframe systems.
- Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, procedures, and incident responses.
Required Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with mainframe z/OS operating systems.
- Must have experience in systems administration, with a focus on mainframe technologies.
- Knowledge of application programming experience, preferably within enterprise environments.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, mission-critical setting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent communication abilities.
Technical Environment:
- Mainframe OS: z/OS
- Middleware/Systems: RACF, CICS, DB2, MQ
- Monitoring & Logs:Need someone to review broader logs (including test environments) and spot issues 3rd party provider may miss.
- Jobs & Batch Support: You’ll need to understand job flow and scripting to recognize problems, but not necessarily build from scratch.
- Familiar with backup/recovery, disaster recovery planning, job control language (JCL), and basic mainframe infrastructure
