The Manager of Mainframe operations is responsible for ensuring the continuous availability and optimal performance of the organization’s mainframe systems. This includes managing acquisition, configuration, tuning, and problem resolution while maintaining security and recoverability across all mainframe components. The role involves developing capacity planning strategies, proposing and overseeing major hardware and software upgrades, negotiating vendor contracts, and aligning mainframe operations with broader enterprise technology strategies.
**No C2C. This is a FT position. Not able to provide any kind of sponsorship. Must be willing to work onsite in Omaha.**
Qualifications
This position requires several years in technology management. A strong background in mainframe operating systems (MVS, CICS, DB2), communications (VTAM, TCP/IP), and Windows environments is essential. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to lead technical teams, manage vendors, and oversee departmental projects that integrate new technologies into the existing infrastructure.
Key competencies include leadership, strategic planning, vendor management, and technical expertise in security, disaster recovery, and performance optimization. The manager will ensure 24/7 system reliability, provide direction for technology initiatives, and foster a collaborative and adaptable work environment. Additional responsibilities include managing budgets, evaluating vendor performance, and maintaining compliance with corporate IT standards.
The role operates in a dynamic, high-availability environment that requires being on call around the clock and occasionally traveling for professional development or vendor meetings.
