Our client is InSearch of a VMware Platform Management Engineer to support a mission-focused environment for the Department of State. This role is hands-on across VMware vSphere 8.x, NSX-T/NSX-V, vSAN, and Dell/DellEMC infrastructure, with an emphasis on reliability, security hardening, automation, and operational excellence. This is a 22-month contract opportunity.

Compensation: $70-$95 per hour based on experience

Responsibilities

VMware Platform Management

  • Install, configure, and support VMware vSphere (8.x), NSX-T / NSX-V, vSAN, and related services.
  • Troubleshoot platform issues across compute, storage, and virtual networking layers.

Hyperconverged & Cluster Operations

  • Support hyperconverged systems—DellEMC VxRail and PowerFlex experience preferred.
  • Perform capacity planning, health monitoring, and firmware/cluster upgrades.

Storage Operations

  • Manage block and file storage solutions (Dell/EMC preferred).
  • Execute LUN provisioning, file system administration, and data protection/backup tasks.

Network Integration

  • Configure and maintain top-of-rack (ToR) switches, VLANs, and basic IP routing supporting virtual networking and storage traffic.

Automation & Scripting

  • Develop and maintain infrastructure automation (preferably Ansible playbooks) for provisioning, patching, and compliance tasks.

Security & Hardening

  • Apply DISA STIGs and vendor hardening guidance across hardware/software components.
  • Support regular vulnerability scanning, remediation, and configuration compliance.

Documentation & Collaboration

  • Produce and maintain runbooks, change control records, and knowledge base articles.
  • Partner with application, security, and network teams to resolve incidents and implement platform improvements.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Active TS clearance (required to start)
  • Strong experience administering VMware vSphere (8.x) in an enterprise environment
  • Working knowledge of NSX-T and/or NSX-V and vSAN
  • Experience supporting storage operations: LUN provisioning, file systems, and data protection processes
  • Understanding of network concepts for virtualization/storage traffic: VLANs, ToR switching, basic routing
  • Experience implementing security baselines, DISA STIGs, and remediation workflows
  • Ability to document procedures and operate within structured change management processes
